EDUCATIONAL
US Merchant Marine Academy, Cleveland Hall
Kings Point, NY

The major renovation of this 50+ room barracks building involved exterior envelope improvements, extensive site work, a new geothermal well-field and interior fit-out, as well as new building systems. During post-construction testing, DCM discovered that the dedicated outdoor air system was not operating in accordance with the sequence of operations. While the reports showed that the ventilation met code requirements, we identified that the system would likely fail prematurely. Our team worked with the operational service contractors to optimize the design intent by reducing the run time of the compressors and heaters, improving the overall system’s efficiency.
